MERRY CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas to all of you whom I know from our Farmer's Oval days. I hope you, your families and loved ones have a truly excellent and merry Christmas and have a great new year.

Now I have to go get my Christmas shopping done.

Later for you,
Glenn B

Shit, Uncle Raymond and Smitty and Pat and Dom and Gas - it's all your fault!

Well maybe some of my fault too because when he asked me what I thought about him getting a motorcycle I told him to go for it as long as he would ride safely. As it turns out, as of this afternoon, Brendan B. Bartley can now proudly consider himself as one of those who can say, without a doubt:

We Are The People Our Parents Warned Us About

As you can see from the pics, Brendan has gotten himself his first motorcycle. Lucky for him, he is not accident prone and he is careful too so he may have it for a good long while. It's a Yamaha V-Star 650cc. That is about all I know about it.

Of course, I can also tell you it is black and chromed, looks fast and he looks like Joe Cool sitting on it but you can see all that for yourselves. Please wish him luck, anything to ease my nerves at this point would be greatly appreciated.

All the best,
Glenn B

GONE FOR WELL OVER 7 YEARS NOW...

...he passed on to another world on September 12, 2003, just under 4 months after he lost his beloved wife June Carter-Cash. I miss his gravel filled deep voice, his words, his story filled songs and the tough yet sometimes tender style of his ballads. His songs and ballads were set to a new style of country music, that which was fit for the country boy or gal in us all even if we were from the big city. His music always meant a lot to me as I know it did for others. Two of his best songs are below (there are many others just or almost as good), and so is one of his best collaborations with three other country singers (of the 4 only 2 are still with us).

Hopefully, somehow, he still does remain and he will be back again and again and again even if no other way than to remain in our hearts and to be passed on to our children and then onto theirs. That could keep him alive forever. Who knows, maybe someday, someone on a starship may listen to Johnny Cash as that someone travels across the universe divide to the far side of it all, or maybe someone will listen to Johnny Cash on a far away planet just as a falling drop of rain catches his eye. I know my son Brendan loves his music, I hope his children someday will do likewise. Maybe it will be one of them who will travel the universe in that starship to see that raindrop. Johnny Cash's music being passed from one generation to the next has got him started on the road to immortality. Pass him on down through the ages, don't let Johnny Cash be forgotten.

Hope you enjoyed the music.

I WONDER, HAS HE MADE IT ACROSS THE UNIVERSE DIVIDE?

I'd bet he has indeed.

All the best,
Glenn B

What Was It That Dr. Frankenstein Said When He Created The Monster?

"IT'S ALIVE"

I fear I may have unleashed a monster of sorts on the world today. Dominick and two of his sons joined me at the Nassau County Rifle Range today to learn how to shoot. That has got to be a lot more scary than the Frankenstein Monster and almost as scary as me having guns. You owe all the thanks to Smitty who, about 32 years ago or so, told a background investigator that he would trust me with a gun. Of course, as Smitty often reminds me, he never said anything about bullets! They hired me anyway and now look what I have done.

All the best,
Glenn B

Mr Bartley

You never cease to amaze me.
Your Allison piece was heartwarming and yet sad.
Maybe one day someone will write one for us.
Ill do my best to come by on the 8th.

Shit - It's 1:30AM...

...and I've got work tomorrow. Go figure how I ever got the job as a fed but it does pay for the bacon and the Irish Whisky (and the Kirschwasswer). I am hitting the hay, right after Pink Floyd is done singing "Wish You Were Here"! How appropriate with all my nostalgia tonight...

Later,
Bart

Friday October 8

Any of you slugs, or young lasses, want to get together for a beer cool beverage Friday night, October 8? I will try to make it to Glendale if someone wants to meet up there - maybe in Casey Jones' (of course that means a side trip to Joe Yumet's house). Let me know. Probably after 9.

Later for you,
Bart

PS: I may stop there tomorrow night too.

Poor Little Alisson - I Miss Her A Lot

Gordon Lightfoot must have known her because he sang so well about her (though he spelled her name differently than how I remeber she spelled her's). Click on the arrow to play the song then scroll down and read the lyrics:

"Poor little Allison
Standing in the night wind
Laughing out loud
Turning her face to the summer rain

Poor little Allison
Never had much goin'
Hard to forget
Always in step with the world she's in

Never knowin' never feelin'
Showin' so much pride
Never sayin' what she's thinkin'
Or feelin' deep inside

Poor little Allison
Dreaming of the right one
Laughing out loud
Lost in a crowd of fair weather friends

Never knowin' never feelin'
Showin' so much pride
Never sayin' what she's thinkin'
Or feelin' deep inside

Poor little Allison
Standing in the night wind,
Wishing out loud
Turning her face to the summer rain
Hard to forget
Always in step with the world she's in"

She knew I loved her and I hope it helped in at least some small way. Hell, I still love her and miss her.

All the best,

Bart
