I remember the hard ball field bleachers when they were whole, without grafitti and when the fence around the M train line was not that high and did not have barbed wire atop it. I also remember the first time the concrete borders atop the brick structure of the bleachers was knocked off by a bunch of whackos having been there at the time. I also remember us picking up those pieces of concrete AND RESETTING THEM BACK WHERE THEY BELONGED.It took quite a few of us but we were young and had some scruples.
Glenn, you have a good memory. The old picture is not from when we where there and not how I remember it either. I know that the kids who hung there in the 70's would not have trashed it that bad.:) That picture was actually taken in 1984 when I was in Ridgewood visiting my parents before they moved here to CT. I bought my daughter there that day. She was only 1 at the time and I pushed her on the swings and we reminiced together. I told her all kinds of stories about her Mom that she goo goo and gaa gaa'd at knowing she'd never remember a thing. Great memory about the bleachers. I dont remember that. I remember when we hung out underneath when it was cold out. One night we got put in the squad car after the police told us the park closed at ten and we shouldnt be in there. Since when did the part close at ten? Didnt they know WE closed the park?
Joanne we did damage in the park but not on a scale like this i dont remember the damage seen in the pictures that is a real SHAME no wonder they took them down i am not saying i was a angel but thats a bit much thanks for the memories remember the patrol car # 2390 66 chevy IMPALA
